The Real Reason The Little Couple Was Canceled
The Little Couple has had a fantastic run throughout its 14 seasons, with fans eagerly anticipating its 15th installment for a long time. But if the latest developments are to be believed, the show might not see the light of the day following Jennifer Arnold and Bill Klein’s legal issues with their producers.
Although there has been no official word about whether the series will be renewed for another season, fans fear that the curtains might have fallen on their favorite series after no new episodes have aired in the last two years. The duo was embroiled in an expensive lawsuit with their producers, which is said to be the primary cause behind the show’s extended hiatus.
In July 2020, the reality stars finally settled their three-year lawsuit against LMNO Cable Group to reclaim intellectual property rights. But unfortunately, it seems the working relationship between both parties has been hugely affected by the fiasco. The popular series, which debuted in 2009, chronicled the adventures of the married duo, both of whom have skeletal dysplasia, and gained a massive following over the years, raking in high ratings. But it looks like the confrontation came with severe consequences as it hasn’t been greenlit for season 15 despite the settlement.
Why Was ‘The Little Couple’ Cancelled?
Unfortunately, The Little Couple has been on a hiatus due to the pair’s expensive lawsuit with producers. According to The Sun, “The legal matter started in June 2016 when producer LMNO Cable Group sued Discovery Communications for $7 million.” The outlet added, “In court papers obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, LMNO Cable Group claimed their accountant falsified records to hide hundreds of thousands of dollars in embezzled money.”
The company claimed that Discovery Communications used the situation to steal TLC’s The Little Couple and put them out of business.
In the wake of the accounting scandal, both parties agreed to a settlement, and it looked like everything got resolved. However, the legal battle got more complicated when Jennifer and Bill added to intervene in the case almost a year later. Per their court papers, they believed they were entitled to a portion of LMNO’s contingent compensation in The Little Couple. They also allege that they felt entitled to a part of Discovery’s adjutes gross revenues.
The court papers further state that the pair “feared they would lose valuable monetary and intellectual property rights which would be adjudicated without their interests being represented; nor would any of the current parties represent [Jen and Bill’s] interests adequately or at all.”
Nevertheless, things took a positive direction when both parties agreed to mediation and eventually reached a settlement agreement. Hence, the court ordered the lawsuit to be dismissed in light of their successful mediation and settlement.
