After spending more than 7 months away from one of the longest-running soap, General Hospital, Martin Grey is ready to be back. The actor Michael E. Knight who portrays Martin Grey, has appeared for an interview recently where he surprised the fans with the good news. Knight also made revelations about what kept him away from the soap. Martin Grey Is Back on the Screen
Soap star Michael Knight has made exciting revelations on his return as Martin Grey on GH. In the interview with Soap Opera Digest, Knight said that his character Grey is coming back home to Port Charles now. In addition, he disclosed the reasons behind his absence from the show.
The actor revealed Martin was supposed to leave General Hospital for only 3 months after his scenes with girlfriend Lucy Coe. Last on GH, Grey broke up with Lucy (played by Linn Herring) after discovering her relationship with Scotty Baldwin. After which, heartbroken Grey left Port Charles. According to Knight, Grey left the screen for a short duration. So, when the months passed, the actor eagerly started waiting to be back on the show.
Upon being away for too long Michael said, he started taking it as an end for Martin. But finally, the wait is over, Michael is back on the set. On his return he said, “when I received the call, I was a very happy man”.
What Extended His Absence
Knight explained, despite the plan, the period of his absence was extended until now because General Hospital had a huge change on the writer’s desk. Chris Vat Etten (as co-head writer) with Elizabeth Corte joined back the writer’s team and it had changed the plan.
Michael expressed gratitude to Frank Valentini (executive producer) for keeping him in the loop. He revealed, initially in 2019, Frank invited him on the set for 4 days which turned into four beautiful years. He’ll be forever grateful for the opportunity. Considering that, Knight also mentioned, he was satisfied with his time on the show if makers did not plan to bring Martin back. However, Chris Vatt called him in the meantime to join the show.
The actor also added, it is a benefit to have Chris as the writer. He playfully said, Chris created my signature character Tad Martin on All My Children and here again he’ll write Martin on the General Hospital.
Storyline for Grey
The actor, having his own reservation, spoke on Grey’s upcoming storyline. He said that people often ask him about his role on General Hospital. Answering to which he jokingly said that it’s like that of Paprika, it is used in limitations but definitely to spice up our tangy taste buds.
The actor excitedly expressed how happy he is to be back. He also gave full credits to the fans, saying they are the one to give us jobs so may God bless each and every one of them. I’m thankful for all the love they shower upon the characters.
